The crying child

03.30.06 (11:44 am)   [edit]

The child did not know.
Could not understand,
That life could be better,
That anger was not the answer,
Abuse not the way to get things done.
How could the child understand?
No remembrance of better times,
Of love given without abuse following,
Or simple peace,
That many take for granted;
A night without yelling or hitting.

Stunted through no fault of his own
Pushed down
Overwhelmed by those who should have loved,
But it somehow got lost in the screaming.
The child grows up
And the cycle continues,
No understanding that things could be different.
So it goes
Generation after generation
The children pay for the sins of their parents.
